Black Planet is the top black site in terms of site visitors.
The dot .com Black Planet is basically a virtual dating service and black
networking site. It uses very advanced tools to help its members communicate
and find a date or on-line friendship.
Why is Black Planet so Popular?
The success of any dating service is determined by the
depth of the database. Black Planet - hands down, has the largest database
of African American online users. It boosts nearly 9 million members and
friends. So there are lots of potential dates and friends to meet online.
Black Planet has also been named one of the "stickiest" sites
on the Internet. This means that once people log-on to Black Planet they
stay on the site much longer than most other sites on the Internet.
What makes the Black Planet experience so compelling?
Black Planet makes it easy to find dates and potential
friends. You can search their database of online users by state or region,
age, sexual orientation etc. The dot .com Black Planet also has its own
communication system called Black Planet notes. It is like an internal
email system but better.
Black Planet Notes lets you send a text message
to anyone in the Black Planet membership internally. Furthermore, when
anyone in Black Planet posts a message in the forums, chat area or in
Black Planet Notes you can visit their personal site instantly by clicking
on their Black Planet user name.
Black Planet also has some very racy member provided
content like the Best Legs of Black Planet, Eye Candy of Black Planet,
and Black Planet Lovah Gyrls. In the past some members have posted
soft porn and then spammed other members. Black Planet Administration
seems to be in a fight to end the edgy content. However, this seems like
an ongoing Battle, that has to be waged.
An Attractive female with the classic sexy black look (mocha
skin - lips and hips) can easily get hundreds of thousands even millions
of Black Planet male members to view her personal pages.
How do I Safely Date on Black Planet?
As with any dating service be careful about how you proceed.
Do not post too much personal information on-line. Some members at Black
Planet have complained about identity theft. Use a nickname because, some
members, especially very attractive ones, have complained about their
pictures being stolen and used by other persons. When the injured parties
complained to Black Planet dot.com their response seems to be slow.
ONLY MEET PEOPLE IN A PUBLIC PLACE!!!
NEVER ... EVER meet a new date at your home or some
private place! Meet in well lit places, with plenty of people around.
On your first date try to go to a place where you can talk (not to a movie).
Both parties should go Dutch so that no one will feel obligated in any
way. I may be old fashioned but, I would suggest getting to know someone
for at least 3 months before getting serious or intimate.
What are the Downsides of Black Planet?
Black Planet has too many intrusive ads. It also serves
a lot of ads from spyware marketing companies. These companies lure you
with free software, but once installed basically track your movements
all over the Internet. It needs to sell more pay-per-click ads so that
small and minority businesses can market to their members.
Most of their ads now are annoying pop-up ads. The site
is very slow because of all the members using the web applications. Furthermore
the Black Planet membership, most of whom are not professional web designers,
take great excesses with the bandwidth of the Black Planet site. Many
of them install Flash and Animated movies that have very large files sizes.
The most self centered thing about Black Planet is that
they do not let members link out of the site in the forums. Unlike other
big portals like About.com, which let you link out in forum posts, Black
Planet does not allow live links in the forum posts. They take an approach
similar to AOL's garden content approach, where they attempt to keep AOL
subscribers curtailed with AOL provided content. The same is the case
with Black Planet provided content and its members.
Is Black Planet a Good Place to develop Business
Relationships?
While Black Planet remains a strong place to make personal
relationships, it is much less so, a place to do business. Regular posts
on the Black Planet Business Forums yield mild response. Most members
seem like people in micro businesses and therefore, have little capital
to obtain your products or services. It would take regular postings and
follow up to get any solid business leads. Most of the members seem on
a mission to meet dates and have little interest in business of any kind.
