Is Wireless Finally Ready to Rule E-business? Part 5
While all of these figures are impressive, they pale in
comparison to the worldwide usage of the wireless web with epicenters
in Japan and Europe. According to Internet magazine of October 2nd, 2000
the number of worldwide wireless devices equipped with Internet access
will reach 1.5 Billion with Japan and Europe providing the lion share
of growth. The projected number of wireless messages sent a month according
to Cahners In-Stat is estimated to be over a staggering 244 billion by
December 2004!
All of this growth will be facilitated by great strides
in the capability of the wireless media. Rich media technologies like
Flash have already developed a wireless media player to stream animation
and data content to wireless devices. A high speed broadband technology
known as 3-G (for third generation wireless) will offer a fat pipe to
wireless devices that exceeds today's cable and DSL speeds. 3-G should
be widely available within the next few years
